Guideline for Guest Seating Planner

Start maintaining your guest list from the very beginning of your planning to avoid last-minute stress. Please read the instructions carefully before you begin. 

Option 1 – Individual Listing – Each guest is written separately with their own title (Mr / Mrs / Miss / Master / Baby / Dr, etc.) Chairs Allocated = always 1 per person

Option 2 – Couple Grouping – Couples are grouped together under Mr & Mrs , Chairs Allocated = 2

Option 3 – Family Grouping – Entire family is grouped under one entry, often written as “Mr & Mrs [Name] & Family”. Chairs Allocated = total number of family members

List of Titles

Formal Titles
  • Mr. – for men
  • Mrs. – for married women
  • Miss – for unmarried women
  • Ms. – for women if you’re unsure about marital status
  • Master – for young boys (4 to ∼12 years)
  • Baby – for infants (0 to ∼3 years)
Presidents & Former Presidents
  • H.E. [Full Name] – stands for His Excellency / Her Excellency
  • Former president, you still use H.E. (it’s a lifetime honorific).
Prime Ministers
  • Hon. [Full Name] – stands for Honorable
    Example: Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe
Ministers / Members of Parliament
  • Hon. [Full Name] – Example: Hon. Sajith Premadasa
Professional / Religious Titles
  • Dr. – Doctor
  • Prof. – Professor
  • Rev. – Reverend / Father
  • Pastor – Pastor
  • Ven. – Venerable (Buddhist clergy)
  • Swami – Hindu monk/spiritual leader

Other Dignitaries
  • Ambassadors / High CommissionersH.E. [Full Name]
  • Judges / Chief JusticeHon. Justice [Full Name]
  • Military LeadersGen. / Adm. / Air Marshal [Full Name] (depending on rank)
